Hello its me again!
IF (as I'm still wanting to live closer to PSU esp. sellwood area) we were to live in Beaverton/Tigard area while attending PSU, and I took the MAX into Portland: how long of a commute would it be?
If classes started at 9a, when would I have to leave beaverton/tigard to arrive at least 20 min early?

I think if I lived in Beaverton/Tigard I would be taking the 99 w? to get to PSU if I drove? is there traffic congestion during the normal times of morning commute, or is it pretty much constant?

Just trying to weigh all my options. Thanks!

If you live near Sunset, the closest stop to Portland, it'll take 10-15 min to reach the Central Library stop. Then it'll take another 10 minutes to walk or take street car to PSU.
There are a lot of stops in Beaverton, if you live near Willow Creek, it'll take more like 35-40 minutes to reach downtown.
Highway 26, is the main highway from the west side to downtown and it is really bad during rush hours.

How about Orenco Station in HIllsboro. What would the commute be like there? I would not be taking the train during rush hour as I will be r-e-t-i-r-e-d , but I would like to be able to get into Portland quickly. That is , after all, why I am moving 3000 miles.

If you want to figure out public transit times, go to TriMet: Public Transportation for the Portland, Oregon, Metro Area. Trimet is our regional public transportation provider (they cover most of Portland/Beaverton/Hillsboro/Gresham, etc). On their home page is a Trip Planner tool. You enter your start and end addresses, and it tells you the best route to take (bus or Max location, time to leave, etc). It's pretty cool, and worth doing before you move somewhere.

I take the Max every day from Millikan Way in Beaverton to Yamhill downtown, and it takes exactly 30 minutes.

Nancy, I think you're getting 79 minutes because it's saying you have to transfer to a different train. Something's funky there. Try using the stop id of 9835 for Orenco, and ending at 8336 (Yamhill), or look for the id numbers for other stops. It should be about 40-45 minutes. It takes me about 20 minutes to drive from Beaverton to Orenco, so that seems about right.
