I secured housing. The price tag wasn't pretty, but Portland is still most likely the cheapest American city with 500k+ people so I guess I can't complain too much.

I just heard a statistic (not sure of its accuracy) that in New York City, only 7% of apartments have washer/dryers in them.

So it would seem we're not alone with not commonly having them.
