Let me explain my situation to allow you understand this. My wife and I are in our 50's and live in Oklahoma. I've lived there about 16 years. Both my wife and I have outgrown the area in terms of employment options, activities, weather, especially the weather, health, and more.

I've been researching the PNW ever since my wife became addicted to certain vampire movies filmed in the area

My issue is quite simple. We don't have the funds to pack up and move. Our income is limited to what my wife receives from Social Security Disability and my Social Security Supplemental Income checks. This gives us only about $1100 a month for rent and bills. So far I have found that the PNW rentals require more income than we current make.

Here is the problem. One way to move would be with a HUD (Section 8) voucher. Our current Section 8 lease ends in August of this year. We are needing to move by the middle of July. I don't know what Section 8 can do for us. With our low income I'm willing to move just about anywhere in Oregon or Washington state. I can work at least part time doing desk work. I've had offered from two call centers in Portland area that I am well qualified for. I just have to be living in the area to work for them.

Current plan:
Sell just about everything we don't need such as TV's, furniture, and so forth. Pack the van with the rest, including our two cats. Drive the 2000 plus miles to the PNW and hope to find someplace to live besides our van. Once housing of some sort has come through then I can pursue employment in the Portland-Vancouver area and look for better housing.

My plan may not sound like the best plan for us but that is why I am here. I need help finding a place to live and maybe a job as well in the lovely and rainy Pacific Northwest.

Thank you so much for your time reading this.

Freddy

You might want to contact the Section 8 people with your questions about what they can do for you.

Other than that, if you don't have the funds to move -- don't. Sorry I can't be of more help, but it just doesn't make sense to sell all of your furniture and move to a place where you can't afford the rent. You'll be stuck with no furniture and nowhere to live.

Portland also has a very poor track record with Section 8 housing as far as locating it in areas that are safe and pleasant to live in-

BTW, that's a terrible link. It wants people to pay $15 for a section 8 packet when multnomah County section 8 lists aren't even open and probably won't be for at least a year. It's a scam.

Probably the best and most accurate information would be gotten from the Multnomah County and related websites. That way the OP would know what is current and what is not. Here are a couple of links to get started.
