We're looking at buying a property that only has street parking, but room for a driveway. Anyone have experience with curb cutting for a driveway? I can find permit costs, but so far not even ballpark costs online. Just trying to factor that in before we decide and we don't know anyone that has had it done. Thanks!

Is cutting the curb all you need? Then my estimate is between $50 and $100, depending on how long you'll rent it for- you need to call them for exact pricing.
Concrete Saw 18" Walk Behind

They will give you instructions how to operate that beast.

Perhaps smaller, more portable model will suffice:
Concrete Metal Saw 16" Gas

Again, tell them what you need done and they will rent you the right tool.

As far as building the actual driveway, if you are willing to pursue the DIY route as well, you may do it very cheaply with some gravel (ordering it in bulk will make more sense than bringing it a few bags at a time) and then a rented compactor:

I can't imagine the total project to be more than a few hundred $ (plus your sweat). Unless you hire a "pro" that is, then multiply it by 10

Keep in mind that you need a permit from the city. Talk to them first before you proceed on the purchase.

It's much more than just cutting the curb. Permits and regulation come into play regarding proper construction to a account for utility lines that may run underneath, the extra weight of vehicles, etc...

All added up, if you want a paved driveway I would estimate $2000 +. More if you want concrete, less if you want stones.

Stones are more work to install but rain will seep into the ground so no need to deal with runoff.

I think $2,000 underestimates the cost significantly.

For perspective our driveway cost $4500 for stamped concrete with a decorative border. The only difference was there was already a driveway egress put in by the city along the sidewalk.

Talk to the city first. Make sure the city will let you cut in a driveway first.
