I was wondering the same thing -- I currently live in the UK, in a place where people tend to be pretty gloomy, avoiding eye contact, keeping social interactions pretty brisk and superficial. I wonder if part of it might be due to the weather, in which case I would imagine Portland to have a similarly glum vibe to it. Is this the case, or are people more outgoing and friendly?

People in Portland are quite friendly and outgoing, despite the weather (and its similarity to the weather in most parts of the UK).

I am originally from southern Cali and can tell you from my experience the people in Portland are VERY friendly. Too friendly for my liking sometimes. I'm not use to people coming up to me and starting a conversation unless they want money or a cigarette but you might get those types as well. lol It depends on if you are in downtown or what not. Not sure about the dating scene though. You can try "meetup" . com and find people there and things to do in the city.

That sounds good . Great to hear , can't wait to move there and meet these friendly people . @ the UK person .. I always found the people in the UK ( even London ) to be very nice , maybe it's cause I am American and exotic lol .
