If I have a shortlist, its St Pete and Sarasota and Tampa to a degree.
I feel South Floridian born and raised residents actually resemble oregonians kinda.

I live in Tampa Bay, and it's not nearly as progressive as Portland. It has its beauty, but is somewhat stunted culturally.

Yea I would say TB is a poor mans version of it with no transit and more spread out and lesser ppl that are open about things. Tampa has an edge on blues music id say.

I've been to Florida a number of times. My parents live in Cape Coral. I've been around Orlando/Kissimee, Palm Coast. Driven through the rest of it... ... Seen the people, talked to the people... ... I'm scratching my head here because nothing, not one single thing jumps out at me and says 'Portland!'. Nothing. Nada. Nicht.

I would say Tampa too, with the water around and the tall buildings. There are no big trees and a lot of flat land. The highest point is an overpass or that Sky(?) bridge or what ever it's called.

My wife is from Florida and she could not find anything in Oregon that was remotely similar (and I mean this in a good way). We went through a little culture shock when we first arrived because it was SO different from where we're from (I'm from TX), but we adjusted quickly and eventually embraced it. I did find that Oregonians were more "Southern" in that they lived a slower lifestyle and took their time to enjoy the day. They were also very friendly.

I can't speak for the whole state since I only lived in the Tampa Bay area but I can tell you some things in this area that a Portlander may enjoy depending on your age group... 1) the Pinellas Trail (a many miles long paved bike trail from St. Pete to Tarpon Springs) ~ best Nov-Apr for cooler weather. 2) the Gasparilla festival & night parade (early Feb). 3) Guavaween costume festival (last Sat of Oct). 4) Ybor City (music, bands) ~ Tampa and Pinellas County beach clubs have their fair share of bands & nightlife too. 5) Salvador Dali Art Museum ~ St Petersburg (don't leave valuables in your car). 6) Sanibel Island (pricey area but great shell hunting on immaculate beaches). 7) Crystal River ~ Manatee watching; also Tampa Electric has a Manatee Viewing Center (Tampa Electric - Manatee Viewing Center). 8) Sarasota Ringling Museum. 9) Skyway bridge ~ fishing. 10) South Beach Tiki Bar & Grill at Madeira Beach- across from the Gulf of Mexico; great food, casual/beach attire fine, decent prices.

I second this! I have lived in north central florida for the last 7 years. There is NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING similar or vaguely similar between Florida and Oregon. The have green hills would be my only comment. We are looking to get out of Florida and head out west again to Oregon and just got back a few weeks ago. The people in Oregon are the nicest people, unlike many here in Fl. People seem more in tune with being environmentally responsible out west while here in FL and the whole South for that matter is total opposite. You see trash and debris on roadsides likw it's commonplace. People throw away just about anything with no sense of where it is going. Tvs, umbrellas, plastic tables, tires, you name it. It's ridiculous. Anyhow, I am getting off topic now. My point is there is nothing the same about either place. Sorry.

Nothing in Florida resembles Portland. If you like Portland and the overall environment it is best to avoid Florida.
