Oh great...so now the clowns at the anarchist cafe represent all of Portland.

Yawn...more boring cliched posts about all the "wacko liberals" and "keeping Portland weird" from people living in the suburbs to follow...

I don't know anything about "weird" but gosh it looks like some young adults dressed in 'trendy' cloths, trying to figure out where they belong, what they are going to do with the rest of their lives, how to meet their life's partner, yada, yada, yada.

Trust me, when I was that age, I looked a whole lot worse. Tie-dyed tee shirts fashion didn't die quick enough from my now aged perspective. Do miss having hair though. Any hair on the top,

There was no comment in the OP, so are the rest of you trying to say that Portlanders don't look like this? Because this is very typical for what I see around the PSU campus. I'm not making any value judgements on it, because I don't care. But I look at that picture and think, "Oh yeah, I see Portland there."

They're not that average. They're a little too far on the punk spectrum to be "average" Portlanders, or at least to be "average" transplants in Portland. But you have to distinguish if we're talking about "average" transplants in Portland (like the ones in the photo) or "average" native Portlanders who tend to look much more average and mainstream American in general.

People dressed like that would not rate a second glance in Portland.
That look is common enough, but it's not your "average Portlander" at all.

There are other cities that have adopted the slogan "Keep(fill in the blank) Weird. This doesn't make them weird any more than showing a certain segment of the population and what they wear. If you go downtown you will see lots of different styles of dress. Most are some kind of conformist type mode especially amongst those trying the hardest to look the most "different."

In the imagination of many people who have never been to Portland, this is the average Portlander:
