Pregnant women who eat nuts or nut products like peanut butter daily raise the risk their children will develop asthma by 50 percent, Dutch researchers said on Tuesday.

The study also showed that moderate amounts did not seem to have an effect, meaning it is too soon to say whether pregnant women should give up nuts because they contain many important nutrients and healthy fats a developing fetus needs, they said.

This is just nuts. If babies were that fragile, how in the world did the planet's population get to where it is? I say all pregnant women should eat lots of nuts, eat sushi, drink wine, go sky diving, and smoke cigars. May only the strong survive!!!

i swear, doctors are going to limit pregnant women to water and vitamins pretty soon.
because of their fear of getting sued, we have to stop eating everything.
i ate what i wanted when i was pregnant. i dont drink, but have seen pregnant women have wine with dinner and babies are fine.
if i craved hot dogs or cold cuts, i ate them. i even had sushi a couple of times(although i got sick, but maybe baby just didnt like it).
i mean what do women in other countries do? stop eating their normal foods? i am sure japanese women dont give up sushi and greek women dont give up Feta, and italian women dont give up ricotta.

News, Life Raises Risk of Asthma.

When I was pregnant, I did sooo many things that I wasn't "supposed" to do. I ate whatever I was craving, I did whatever activity I wanted (short of roller coasters, I stayed away from those), and none of it affected my healthy little girl.

In fact, my little girl is healthier than my friend who followed the Pregnancy Bible.

I'm a strong believer in research, but don't believe everything you read. Many of these studies are done with small sample sizes and have not been replicated.

For baby #1, I was ridiculous...no lifting, no eating fish or subs, no caffeine, etc etc. Didn't eat anything with red dye in it b/c of "research" of the effects of the dye on the baby. Plain silly. Was on the internet constantly for every little detail of growth & what to do/not to do.

For baby #2, I allowed myself a small cup of coffee or sweet tea on a regular basis. I cleaned my house & did moderate lifting. Went to doc's appts & was just SENSIBLE. I even had a few sips of wine on CMas Eve.

Both turned out healthy but I wasn't so freaked out with #2. I just used common sense & moderation. I didn't stress over every little detail.

I had a sub craving for #2 & for some reason had forgotten that it is not good to have deli meats due to bacteria. That did sort of freak me out when I remembered...

Just be smart. Use common sense. ENJOY being pregnant.
