We moved to Chino Valley a little over two years ago from Yuma. A like size home, so furniture fit was not a problem. Now two things have required that we do some furniture shopping. 1. a 94 Year Old Mother-In-Law that we moved over here from CA., and 2. the 15 year old Flex Steel living room furniture is beginning to show some minor wear. Well, that coupled with the fact that the wife "just wants to get something different".

Shopping for furniture has always been a real turn off for me. Walk in the door of a major retailer and get bombarded with salesmen who want to sell you what they get the biggest commission from. We needed to get a more comfortable bed for the MIL, and I don't know how (Yellow pages?) but the wife stumbled upon Joe's Furniture right beside Costco. Very pleasant experience (and better price I might add, compared to the "discount" stores) with the bed purchase. So when the MIL (terminally ill, lung cancer) requested a more comfortable recliner I gave Joe's a try.

That place is deceptive!!!! The store is HUGE, and the selection is phenominal. Found a fully powered chair for a great price, far below the competition. I found out that Joe's used to be in downtown Prescott, but moved to the Costco area because of the overhead downtown.

There are always many negative comments on merchants here on the forum, but I was so impressed with the service, quality, and price that I felt a positive comment on a great merchant was in order.

George

There is a lazy boy outlet in Prescott Valley that was nice, no commission, but Lazy Boy is always more expensive than a no name chair. But oh so comfy. The lack of furniture stores is baffling though.

I'm with you. I dispise the Room Store and try to avoid it at all costs. The sales agents are like piranhas waiting for the raw meat to arrive.

That's good to know. I've also had a good experience with Sleep America. They have a main store at the mall, but there is a discount version by Safeway in Prescott Valley. We've purchased two mattresses there and both experiences were very pleasant.

A lot of Prescott area furniture stores went belly-up shortly after 2008. Not enough new residents, economy went south, and storefront rent was high. They couldn't survive.

But on the bright side (and there is one) Joe's used their head, got out from under the high overhead, and is still in business.

THINK POSITIVE

I think a lot of Prescott landlords shot themselves in the foot with high rents. Prescott Valley owes part of its existence as a shopping community to the high rents charged by Prescott landlords.
