A recent visit to Prescott to look at real estate for sale resulted in the agent's comment that there were no good upscale restaurants in Prescott. This seemed a rather bold statement given the many expensive neighborhoods, neighborhoods that generally create a demanding upscale restaurant clientele. A quick search of TripAdvisor restaurant listings showed a kind of unevenness to the restaurant offerings and nothing that stood out as upscale. The top two restaurants on TripAdvisor are pizza restaurants, for example, and may be excellent but not quite what we were hoping for. So my question is: are there any upscale restaurants in Prescott that consistently reliable for a fine dining experience? The answer may help our decision to move from Tucson (many fine restaurants) to Prescott.

I mean no disrespect by this response, but if you would base your decision to move to Prescott in part on the availability of fine dining establishments, you may not wish to move to Prescott - it's not really that kind of place.

We have plenty of very good (even excellent) restaurants, but none that I can think of would be considered "fine" dining. We used to have a few - The Rose and The Prescott Mining Company (which was quasi-upscale). I'm not familiar with the golf developments out here - perhaps Talking Rock Ranch has a more upscale restaurant?

Opposite ends of the spectrum imho. If fine dining is important to you you may want to stay where you are.

A restaurant does not have to be 'upscale' to be delicious. There are plenty of excellent restaurants - Iron Springs Cafe, El Gato Azul, Taj Mahal, Esoji, and Tara Thai are a few. The reality is that Prescott is too casual to have restaurants where you have to wear fancy clothes. The big-city, show-off-your-wealth eateries will never fly in Prescott. Prescott is 'casually delicious'!

Great replies! Good suggestions and now we have a better understanding of the scene. Actually, I like the idea of Prescott resisting this influx of money that might want some changes to the dining scene. In fact, they may (The Money) want all kinds of changes more inline with wealth and privilege. That's not us, actually. We were just surprised that fancy dining wasn't in evidence.

Thanks again for taking the time to write your thoughts.

I'm not surprised at the lack of fine dining just because there are some expensive homes there. People who built pricey homes in Prescott may have been looking for a getaway from their primary home in a more urban setting (some of those homes are second homes). So, they aren't looking for what they had where they came from or where their primary home is. And Brian is right, some VERY tasty food available in Prescott....without the linens and dressed up wait staff and prices to match.

Perfectly stated BriansPerspective...! Love the way it is...all taste good without all that glitz down south. So much less chains here..

My wife who's from Brooklyn NY and MUST have her perfect Brooklinite pizza. None here, but Bill's has come close if you tell them to make it as such.... woo...it's great.

cheers...

In Prescott, Prescott Station comes closest to fine dining. It's got a Southwestern theme, but the menu has many innovative items. Pricey, and you can get dressed up if you want. If you want a traditional menu, the white tablecloth experience can be found at The Peacock Room at the Hassayampa Hotel. My favorite restaurant is Iron Springs Cafe, but it's not pretentious at all.

In Prescott Valley, Cork and Cuisine is nice and offers a chef's table dining experience.

I have eaten at most all the restaurants in Prescott. There are decent eateries for sure but nothing stands out that I just have to go back to eat the food again. Mediocre food at its best.

My favorite places to dine are Bill's Pizza (no atmosphere). El Gato Azul (patio dining is nice), Rosa Pizza and Cork and Cuisine. For a steak dinner I cook at home.
