If you are knowledgeable about both of these places which one would you choose to live in and why?

Thanks!

Comparing Prescott and Sedona is kind of like comparing apples and oranges. Both are nice communities but have totally different vibes. Prescott is much larger than Sedona and has it's roots back in the Old West. Sedona, on the other hand, is very upscale and attracts a lot of "new age" people.

Sedona is beautiful, with all the Red Rocks, and Oak Creek. We love to visit there often, but as much as I like to visit Sedona I personally would probably not choose to live there. It's about 5 - 7 degrees warmer than Prescott, on average, which isn't much except for right now when we're in the low to mid 90's and Sedona is in the upper 90's/low 100's. Prescott has more pine trees and has several "cabin-in-the-pines" areas.

Both towns have "traffic issues", especially during tourist season.

Definitely visit both towns. There are many things to enjoy about each one, so it will just depend on which atmosphere appeals to you the most . . . and how much money you want to spend. Sedona housing is much pricier than Prescott's.

I agree with Gretchen...I've lived here in the Prescott area for 23 years now but I visit Sedona often. Sedona is more vibrantly scenic but also more "plastic". Prescott has a very western flavor. Prescott also has the convenience of several bedroom communities where there are many opportunities for shopping and restaurants, etc, while Sedona is more of an island community. Both are lovely places to live.

Default What about medical care/hospitals?

How would you compare the medical care, hospital situation between PRescott, Cottonwood? Do you have to go to Cottonwood for major med problems?

Prescott has two hospitals, the older one in Prescott, and the brand new one in Prescott Valley. I've never heard of anyone going to Cottonwood for medical treatment. Sometimes people will go to a specialist at Mayo's down in Phoenix/Scottsdale.

I'm sorry, but I really know nothing of the medical care in Cottonwood. Since it's a much smaller town that Prescott/Prescott Valley, I guess I assumed that a person from Cottonwood might go to Flagstaff or Prescott for major medical care. Maybe somebody from Cottonwood can answer your question about medical care in Cottonwood.

I live in Sedona and so far I have been lucky enough not to need serious medical care. I can tell you that when I first got here folks told me that for serious issues go to Flagstaff or down to Phoenix. Since moving I have discovered that the Cottonwood hospital is highly rated for Cardiac care but for anything else you should go to Flag or Phoenix. For routine care there are a number of fine doctors right here in Sedona. Sedona also has a great clinic associated with the Verde Valley Medical Center.
