Just received my Yavapai County tax bill of $1,347 dollars of that amount $448 goes to Humboldt Unified School District...
$227 goes to Yavapai Community College...
$59 for the State School Equalization Property Tax, which had been $0 in 2006, 2007 and 2008.. This year taxes (2009) you read about repealing the tax but what happened to the repeal... $734 dollars, over half my tax bill goes for education... Any Comments

Let me understand this as it's confusing--there is a county property tax, or are you referring to the state property tax?

There is no state property tax, only a county property tax.
61% goes to the schools.
22% goes to the fire department.
15% goes to run the county.
02% goes to the flood control department.
01% goes to the library.

At least that's the breakdown of my bill.

OK, my question is if Jan Brewer had signed the state budget then the State School Equalization Property Tax would have been repealed... Being retired and a property owner it's hard to look at how much we spend for schools but yet our students rate so low in the U.S. Now another question, property owners pay for schools but what percentage of state income taxes go for education? Just trying to get an ideal of how much our local area really pays & receives for education?

Take a look at the following presentation by AZ Secretary of State, Ken Bennett. Make sure to have a bucket handy for when you become sick to your stomach.

AZ Budget

The link above does not seem to stream. You Tube has this in three parts:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Thank you for posting this, there are really 4 parts and I watched every minute of it. It looks like 2010 is going to be a killer, I know in California the governor cut all state buying in March or April so no one could buy anything in the last quarter in order to save money. I'm sure Arizona is like most states, you have to spend your entire department budget even if it's buying stuff thats not needed so you will get the same amount or more the next fiscal year. Thats why you see cities and states cut 10% out of each department's budget and most of the time it's not a big deal... when the ask for 10% more then you start worry. I had worked for county and state agencies for 25 years and have seen millions of dollars wasted. Perfect example was the school district, a box of pencils cost $7.00 WHAT !!! $1.00 for the pencils, $2.00 for the district warehouse worker to write out and pull the order and $4.00 for delivery by a school district truck... How to save money.... Have a contract with Office Max or one of the school supply companies and they deliver free to each school once a week... So you got the pencils for $1.00 Savings of $6.00 and school district staff could be cut if need be....
Again thanks for posting this...

Spending on education is a waste. All it does is qualify the young for good jobs. Better to invest the money in new prisons.
