His stats say no, but he wins when it matters, he gets lucky when he needs to, and he is in elite company with 2 SB rings.

Can't stand the Giants, but if there 10-6 and in the playoffs, I am not betting against them...

I think he's elite, in "an ugly win is a win" sort of way.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at the Manning's house for Thanksgiving dinner!

Peyton: "Look at my great stats!"
Eli: "Look at my two rings!"
Archie: "Knock it off boys! Neither one of you can run!"

It is not about just sacks...it is times that QBs are also rushed in the pocket. He was constantly under siege last season.

That said, I didnt say Eli was elite. He isnt. I agree with what someone else said: Too many risky passes, maddeningly inconsistent at times.

But I am a Giants fan. I would take him over every Giants QB post-Phil Simms: Kent Graham, Kerry Collins, Danny Kanell, Dave Brown (Yuck, yuck, yuck! He was atrocious!)...Kurt Warner was also in that group, but he was signed just to keep the seat warm for Manning.

Yeah I remember Kerry Collins and how he was so up and down. But yesterday's loss was not totally on Eli like in week 1 since the special teams made two mistakes in the 4th qtr

Hard to say if he's an elite QB or not.

Article in WaPo today that he may get a few more starts this year.

Excerpt: "...he’s been almost perfectly mediocre over the course of his career — the Giants are 116-116 with him as their starter — Manning’s benching still made news because of his two Super Bowl rings, both over dominant Patriots teams, and because of his sheer longevity: He had played 15 seasons in the NFL entering this year and was New York’s starting quarterback for nearly every single game."

I think he'll be in the HOF one of these days.

I kinda put him on a level with a Curt Schilling in baseball.

Played on some crappy teams. Would be a borderline HoFer without the postseason exploits.. but postseason genius puts him over the top.

With regards to the postseason it was a total team effort by the Giants in both their super bowl runs. Great that he won two but i don’t think he carried his team in the postseason. Played well but not great or excellent. Contrast that to Flacco who had one of the most dominant postseason runs from a QB we have seen. Had at least one of Eli’s post season runs been on the level of Flacco’s when he won then I would give Eli’s postseason resume more weight.

Especially the first of two Super Bowls the Giants won with Eli. Clearly the win over the 18-1 Patriots was overwhelmingly decided by the Giants defensive front generating immense pressure on Tom Brady, which hadn't happened what so ever all that season. But much of the media isn't very bright and can't evaluate games beyond the quarterbacks. Hence Eli walked away with "MVP" honors, just like his brother undeservedingly did the year before vs Chicago.

Eli was a competent QB there for the ride. Not elite.
