Although I am not a Panthers fan, I do live here in CLT and this is some bad news for the home team.

Cam was able to respond to medics and is conscious. As far as living, he seems to be fine.

Default 2014 Regular Season: Week 15 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers

Various reports have Cam Newton sustaining two tranverse processes in his lower back and does not have any serious injuries.

Newton's status against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is unknown.

This is a similar injury to what Tony Romo has and I believe he missed one game for Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Derek Anderson start on Sunday. He beat the Bucs in week 1...

Let Cam rest for the rest of the season. DA is able to lead the Panthers to three straight victories, especially if the team show up like they did against the Saints. So let Cam rest.

I'd rather DA lead us to three loses and secure a top 5 pick

Default 2014 Regular Season: Week 15 - Carolina Panthers 19, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17

The Panthers won another close game against the Buccaneers to sweep the season series. Winning games without Cam Newton is a big step forward.

Elsewhere in the NFC South Division, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 27-20. The New Orleans Saints are at the Chicago Bears Monday.

Default 2014 Regular Season: Week 16 - Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers

Cam Newton returned to practice Wednesday. He may return to starting.

Playoff Picture: The Saints defeated the Bears in week 15. That is a bad step toward the Panthers not making the postseason. If the Saints win out the season, they win the division with an 8-8 record. Whoever the NFC South champion is will have at least eight losses.

Week 16
Cleveland Browns @ Carolina Panthers
Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints (Falcons lead season series 1-0.)
Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Week 17
Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons (Falcons lead season series 1-0.)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints (Saints lead season series 1-0.)

The Panthers need to win out the season by defeating both the Browns and Falcons. The Falcons need to defeat the Saints and lose to the Panthers. I doubt the Buccaneers can defeat the Saints.
