I am really lazy when it comes to cleaning cars, and so I was the first to encourage the men in our family to buy an orbit polisher to make our truck look like new without too much elbow grease. After all why spend hours shining up a vehicle using muscle when you can use a machine to do it for you?
There are quite a lot of polishers on the market, but I am always drawn towards Black & Decker because of price and basic reliability. If I had a car wash and needed to wax and polish customers' cars, I'd be going in another direction.
This is not a machine that you would buy to run a car wash that offers a waxing and polishing service, because it simply isn't intended to be an industrial machine, but it deserves a place up there in your garage with the other tools you use to keep your car in shape. It is incredibly easy to use, and provided you follow the manual instructions, you really can't go wrong.
Like most of their DIY tools, this Black & Decker product is reasonably priced - towards the lower end of the scale, but certainly not within the cheapies - and it does the job it is required to do. I'm much happier to use this than to try and do the polishing by hand. Because of its shape, which is more upright than flat and elongated, it is easier to control and manipulate.
The WP900 is a corded polisher that has been designed essentially for workshop projects, as well as for cars and for boats, and it can also be used to polish up motor cycle bodies. It runs on "random orbit" at a healthy 4,400 orbits every minute and is able to create a finish that doesn't leave any swirl marks. The way it works is intended to mimic a hand-worked finish, but in record time.
This machine is also designed to work gently, on your car, boat or cycle... and on your arm muscles. It has two handles that you can grip at the same time, which really balances the load. It incorporates a 10-ft long cord so that you can plug it into a power point and work up to ten feet away, or use it with an extension cord. Either way you are less likely to trip over the cable while you are working.
Black & Decker's WP900 polisher is supplied in a box along with an applicator bonnet that you can use once, and two polishing bonnets. Size-wise, it measures 13.8" x 6.2" x 8.6" and weighs just 4 lbs.
