When we purchased our home in the summer of 2006 we were pleased to know that the family we bought the home from had purchased a brand new Whirlpool 25.1 cu. ft. refrigerator a few months earlier.
The refrigerator was an Energy Star model (ED5GHGXMB00) which was great being that we were first time home buyers and needed to save money where ever we could. This meant up to 20% less energy use for the refrigerator when compared to older models that don't offer this feature. The temperature controls knobs are located right up front so this makes it easy to adjust the temperature setting.
Right away we were blown away by the amount of storage capacity the refrigerator had, 15.2 cu. ft. for the refrigerator side and 9.9 cu. ft. for the freezer side. The refrigerator has (3) adjustable SpillGuardTM shelves with integrated shelf supports which we use to store all our leftovers, eggs, sodas/beverages or whatever we have and is super easy to clean up. Next it has two clear humidity-controlled crisper which is great for us to keep our produce fresh and organized. The convertible meat/vegetable drawer provides us a convenient space for us to store our deli meats and cheese and it can also be converted to a second crisper drawer. Another great feature of the Whirlpool Side by Side refrigerator is the exterior Ice and Water Dispenser. We would buy bottled water because our city water did not taste good, but now we have a continuous supply of clean, fresh-tasting water filtered by the PUR® system. The ice dispenser has a feature for whole or crushed ice which we enjoy for making fruit smoothies. The freezer is also very spacious and offers a storage tray for your ice and a slide-out freezer bin offers dedicated storage space for your fresh and frozen foods.
Overall I think the Whirlpool Refrigerator Energy Star Model (ED5GHGXMB00) is a great value. I would give it 4 stars out of 5. The only reason I would not give it 5 out of 5 is because it is a bit noisy.
