It's just my opinion, but I think it's easier to not buy it in the first place. I know that if I buy a family sized bag of M&M's, I will eat it in three days. So most of the time I just won't allow myself to buy a family sized bag of M&M's. It's easier for me to avoid it in the store when I know it's not mine than to avoid it in my home when I know that it does belong to me.

I'm writing this with the knowledge that there's currently some ice cream in my freezer. I'm trying to lose a bit of weight and I know that if I eat it then it will ruin my calorie intake for the day, but that ice cream has been invading my thoughts and right now I cannot say whether that ice cream is going to make it through the night. I know perfectly well that I should not do it but the desire is strong.

Do you know of any way to make it easier to deal with this sort of thing?
Detach from your temptations.. you can tell yourself it's a momentary temporary craving that will subside.. this becomes a part of letting go, or you can think of the consequences and not listen to your impulses.

Sometimes it's good to listen to what your body says like if you have a desire to want to do something to better yourself like go for a run.. Cravings and desire, once you meditate and reflect on something else can fade away like clouds that dissipate in the sky.. it's all in your mind.

Exercising self-control in a very impulse oriented, short-term gratification type of society is about understanding what restraint means: "Do I really need this? Or am I covering up that need to fill something else up in my life (like a pint of ice cream) to comfort myself?."

Eat ice cream but go out and run in the morning. Whatever self help or spiritual processes point you towards experiencing life with energy and passion and not control them. Do not resist temptations, but make sure you apply it in all other aspects for a healthy life.
