Why is everybody so convinced that they are special?

Yeah. I was always told growing up that I was special. Family and teachers were always validating me and telling me that I was going places in life. Boy were they wrong LOL. It only made it harder when I came to realization that I'm close to worthless.

I think this problem of selfishness is probably the most destructive when it comes to politics and economic issues. It disgusts me how many people just don't seem to give A **** about how unfair an economic or a social policy can be towards others as long as they themselves make more money. It's making me question if people in general even have any ethic at all and if all of the niceness they display in their daily lifes is nothing more than a show.
