Speaking of Carly Simon, I recently found this old live performance of That the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be and it gives me chills watching it. It is so sad and heartfelt and her voice kills me.

Hm, too, there was a band I loved back in the 90s, their music makes me feel like I'm on drugs when I'm not. Seriously, I feel deeply stoned if I just listen to this music and focus on it, with no distractions. It's Mazzy Star, particularly a number of songs off "So Tonight That I Might See." Especially, "Mary of Silence."

Like...I have done drugs before. This song sounds the way that drugs feel.

It's weirdly morbid, sludgy-brain, slow beats and trippy instrumentals but with her girly but kind of slurring voice... It does something weird to my brain. Like I think playing it while driving my car could be dangerous, for reals.

Guess I'm not the only one who thinks so, since somebody here paired the song with trippy hippie visuals.

The Stones needed a dynamite female soloist and got poor, pregnant Merry Clayton out of bed in the middle of the night to come down to the studio for them. According to legend she sang it in bathrobe and hair rollers.

It's one chilling piece.

Performances by Andres Segovia
Great thread!!

I agree with the above, especially Alexander Borodin.

My very favorite: Handel's Harp Concerto in B flat Major

Handel's Messiah always does it for me too. Anything Baroque. Anything Chopin, most Mozart, Vivaldi (especially The Four Seasons).

Ethnic music: Strunz and Farah's "Reng" "Rainmaker" and many others. Ofra Haza (Israeli), Belkis Akkale (Turkish), Silly Wizard (Scottish).

Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra (BGKO) (these are not The Gipsy Kings) Song: "Djelem Djelem." Awesome group. Each member is a master musician, gifted female singer from Catalonia.

Pop: Caribbean Queen (Billy Ocean), I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Whitney Houston)

Folk: Hello in There (John Prine)

Instrumental: Pipe Organ, Harpsichord and Turkish Saz.

Literal goose bumps?
Mine tend to be a tad more current than those already listed, although I do agree with the Pink Floyd nominees

Amy Lee, especially 'My Immortal', several others of hers too.
Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'
Sinead O'Connor 'Nothing Compares 2 U'

Same!! That guitar solo always puts me in a semi-trance.
