I think maybe your subconscious is coming to terms with the "flip side" of your pleasant life. You made choices and decisions that overall, you're quite happy with, but the downside is that you miss some aspects of the life you've left behind.
In your current life, you're forward thinking, happy and content...but your subconscious knows there was a bit of a price to pay for that, and sadness of what was left behind.
For what it's worth, I don't think you'll ALWAYS have those dreams...I think it's stuff you just have to get through, basically, to make the past and the present coalesce.
The OP hasn't posted since January, but I have to agree with her own hints about missing having more people in her life. I can understand the freedom and independence of being on your own, but your subconscious is trying to tell you something that's missing from your life, something that your conscious mind has perhaps been in denial about.
I may be wrong, but I think it's menopause. Common feelings.
