I think if you read it carefully, you understand she sought shifts where she worked mostly alone, and she wanted the excitement and recognition from resuscitation of patient.
She exhibited hostile behavior earlier in life.
So why would anyone hire someone for anything, particularly dealing with vulnerable patients that knowingly had "exhibited hostile behavior earlier in life."?
Most of humanity doesn’t have the anonymous power of life and death over the helpless. Those that abuse and even kill, doctors, nurses or caregivers, exhibit an inner self hatred and loathing for themselves. They are essentially killing themselves by proxy.
I always thought that these nurses considered themselves "Angels of Death" in an assistance-sort-of-way. Relieving patients who they thought were in misery. Not that that makes it OK!
But it sounds like they are just flat-out murderers. I wonder what they themselves would say about their motivations?

How would a personnel director know about past hostile acts? IMO, nurse should not be accepted for nursing school who has exhibited any hostile behavior, but how would you check for this?
Health care professionals have enormous power over patients
When has power not been abused?
