I know obviously most nurses would never do anything like this, but for the ones that do; the ones that secretly get away killing others by giving them too many meds and the wrong kinds, what do they get out of it? They typically seem to target either elderly sick people or infants. And how is it they so often manage to get away with killing dozens before they're caught?

Too many party drugs make you think certain acts are a good idea. Like, how can you expect a rational explanation?

Power

“Killers who occupy the role of a professional career are sometimes referred to as "angels of death" or angels of mercy. In this role they may kill their patients for money, for a sense of sadistic pleasure, for a belief that they are "easing" the patient's pain, or simply "because they can".

I don’t know about the serial killers, but the nurses who kill one person do it for financial gain.

Examples: Friend said her family are sure that one relative, a nurse, deliberately killed an elderly relative under that nurse’s care. They could not prove it. She benefited from the money willed to her.

Another person floated the idea back and forth with a family member and that person’s wife (a nurse) of killing Dear Old Parent(s). The wife was pushing heavily for doing it, which would have been facilitated by having said vulnerable elders in her home. It did not happen, fortunately.

BTW, when a vulnerable person comes under the care of a nurse relative who stands to profit by prematurely offing the senior, the authorities are verrrry interested in the implications.

There is no insight into this killer nurse’s mind in this article.

I could not find a lot of psychologically oriented info, but I did find this interesting article about a convicted killer nurse:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristen_Gilbert

Apparently, she did it for excitement and attention getting. But her ploy involved resuscitation.

One thing I learned from what articles I did read is that these killers show hostile behavior earlier in their lives.

It did say this:

Anger at being overworked? Or just hoping to reduce the workload a bit by offing some of the more difficult patients?

"Rationed care" may be coming to a hospital near you. A lot sooner than you may think....

I think if you read it carefully, you understand she sought shifts where she worked mostly alone, and she wanted the excitement and recognition from resuscitation of patient.

She exhibited hostile behavior earlier in life.
