If you need a hug, if a pillow doesn't work, get a professional massage, pedicure, manicure, salon hairwash and haircut/style, etc.

If you are single, hug your friends. Or family. Your dog/cat.

A pedicure by a yelling Asian girl is not even close to anything comforting.

I do that also. I like to give myself a hug for a job well done. I also pat myself on the back for a job well done. I have to encourage and be my own cheerleader to myself. I live alone and when I accomplish a goal or meet a work deadline I like to praise myself. Some people would reward themselves with a vacation or a nice steak; this is the same idea but it is free.

Literally hugging yourself is anatomically difficult. Seriously, though, how does one accomplish the equivalent?

You and karen will appreciate that I caught myself doing affirmations while scooping the cat litterbox the other night.

It's such a miserable, humbling job.

I heard myself say aloud, "Lodestar you are a good scooper!"

Seriously though I've seen that a number of trauma patients stroke themselves when they are feeling anxiety. It seems good that people can find ways to calm and comfort themselves.

And lucky are those who don't have to. (But I'll bet they do have ways and just don't realize it. Heh.)
