And now I have a job where I put myself 'out there' all the time, and I'm good at it.
That's what happened to me, too. I ended up with a well-paying part-time job after retirement from my lifetime job based on the fact that I know a lot of people, and I'm good at talking to them.

But it does exhaust me and then I need to retreat and recharge.

I'm the exact same way. I blame my Scandinavian roots for sure haha. Sometimes I'm content to be the quiet and introverted type. But if I have to turn it on for some reason, I can easily flip the switch. In fact there are times I'm quite talkative and will start a conversation with the barista making my coffee for the fun of it.

But like you, it tires me out and I need to recharge my batteries.

I think an introvert can learn to be an extravert by reading some books on small talk.

I do this also, MQ. And I can switch in a day.

In my own case, I really do enjoy the company of others. Parties, social events and being out and about, However, as an empath, I can feel "burned out" or "depleted" by socially intense events. Too much information coming in all at once.

After a social event, I need some down time. I can't hop from a rock concert, to an after party, and an after the after party one night, and not take off the next night. I find it too stressful.

I really enjoy both. The same goes with being alone. I can curl up with a good book two or three nights in a row, then I need to get out and be with others.
