It’s a cultural thing, girls are attracted to rappers who call them ho’s. Sex is everywhere, even on tv, the bra and panty adds with half dressed women are constant Going around in skimpy clothes is no big thing, our culture is easy with drugs and tatted up kids partying. Dating an old guy is nothing, although some girls are naturally attracted to guys their age with firm abs and a full head of hair. The thing that will never change is that a lot of older men will always look at and want pretty young girls.

If a fifty year old rock star likes fourteen year old’s, his people will line them up. Sad, but it’s the way of the world. Girls are influenced by social media and there are a lot of things they should be ignoring. At some point they’ll figure out there is more in life than posing with a trout pout and skimpy top. As far as dating, there are so many different types of couples, anything pretty much goes.

This thread reminds me of Alex Baldwin, he looks closer to eighty, his wife is popping out kids and living off a rich old man, but it’s obvious in recent pictures, he’s about reached his limit.

? It’s not a cultural thing. R Kelly’s abuse started even before people had access to the internet and a lot of the girls he abused were younger teens who had absolutely no experience with much of anything before the abuse started. In situations like that, you have people who are famous with young, impressionable girls and women who are told by these men that they are famous, everyone loves them, and who is going to believe a silly little girl?

That happened, but my point is that we have a trashy culture.

It would probably surprise some people that I kinda agree with you.

I was complaining last night to my husband about how graphic stuff on TV has gotten more and more prolific, and it's like...we are part of this fairly libertine alt-sexual community, but I personally believe that the hedonistic types need to respect that others don't consent to see it. Like we've got private clubs, there should be no need for people to act like degenerates out in public. It really is too easy for kids to get access to porn. And...the show, "The Boys." I mean, I like it, but damn. I hope that parents know how to set their parental controls, but I remember as a kid that if I didn't have access to something most people knew somebody at school who did. Kids are seeing things they shouldn't.

And I noticed a restaurant here in Phoenix called "Breakfast, <B-word>!" and I'm like really? There are stickers on cars with f-bombs and just...it's everywhere. And you're right. It's trashy.

I feel that my *generally* politically left social groups of proud degenerates need to chill out and quit being in people's faces, because that's how you get moral outrage and pearl clutching. Normal people are pretty willing to live and let live but not if everybody is trying to shove obscenity and vulgarity into the public milieu where families struggle to avoid it. When everything is a backlash to a backlash, there's nowhere to go but more extreme. I wish people would just have common sense, decency, and respect for the needs of others.

Well said, but dam, I’d like to know who can honestly look around and say this isn’t a trashy culture.

When I was a teenager I was pretty grossed out by sexual attention from grown men. A little older, like a few years...sure. But much older, I don't know. They either tried like hell to act young, which was embarrassing, or they were sort of...leering.

As a teenager I did have a few crushes on adults, and I'd say that I enjoyed being looked at with appreciation and found a little mild flirting fun. But if a situation felt like it was turning into real advances, it'd freak me out and I'd nope out of there. I guess it wouldn't be unfair to call that being a tease, but it's more like I didn't know how to swim, so I only wanted to go wading. Teens are immature, after all...that's why adults aren't supposed to pursue them.

Wow! I read all posts and it was enlightening because of the specific honesty from some of you. My hat off to you for sharing.

To me, maturity has to do as to why young ones could feel attracted to older people. The problem I see is that older people, often, take advantage of that. That is the sad part of it.

Let us keep in mind that old ideas are still lingering in our culture. A long time ago, even parents were encouraging their young ones to get married to older people because they saw them as settled financially and to take care of the young daughters. As far as the young men, the situation was different in the sense that they had to first learn to be able to support a family. However, many married young because the parents help him with a new young wife if they ended up having a baby too soon. Marriage was a must.

Were the older men in past pedophiles? I am not implying that there were no pedophiles. I am saying if an older man looked for a younger woman was a pedophile. I believe in most instances that was not the case, it was culture. Here is where I often try to avoid anachronism when I evaluate the past.

Today? Circumstances in culture are different. A young 16-year-old does not develop the emotional and mental maturity that in the past girls used to develop. In the past boys and girls were groomed by their parents toward marriage, child rearing, and family life. Today, it seems to me, parents encourage to first enjoy life before settling into a marriage but do not focus much on teaching them about marriage life. That makes young men and women more vulnerable because parents do not teach their children to deal with sex and relationships. Young men and women learn on their own a lot of that. Parent have lost the power and influence on their children very early. Why? My opinion is because our culture has changed to let young ones be treated as adults in every sense when they are still very immature in life.

Granted, other factors other post brought up are factors such as abuse, lack of parental guidance, and sexual liberty too early in life.
Again, my praise to some of the very honest comments that to me came from the hart. That took a lot of courage to open up like that.

You have a great day.

In my teenage years, I was exclusively given sexual attention (and actions; consensual and not) from several women ranging from 4 to 20 years older than me. Never my own age, never younger.

I do wonder what was in it for them, how they felt about it, and why me. I worked in a well-known chain diner restaurant from the age of 15-20, and had tons of access/opportunity to women of all ages, but they definitely skewed older than me. It was also odd because for 90% of that time, my mother was a manager of said restaurant, and that didn't seem to stop any of them.

Writing this from a 38 year old's point of view now, and my own experiences in relationships the last several years, I am now of the belief they saw some weakness and ability to control me that was rooted in my abusive (non-sexual) relationship with my mother.

Wish this topic was more geared to more specific ' teen' geographic inquiry.
Modern day culture is vastly different then tribal groups. I'll leave my response though to modern ( probably overgeneralization at that). With the current wave in ' the more outrageous attitude ' ( teen rebellion). It's a tool for the teen to potentially latch on to a supposedly mature adult. There needs though to be a mutual attraction . Teens are more apt to be ' me' centered and will either accept or decline based on what's in it for them.

My POV during that young age was an extreme mess! Had the typical crush on our Richard Gere looking teacher. But no way did I ever entertain that this school figure treated any of us in a way that invited such rapport. He honestly was a gentleman and definitely kept his career above board.
Ironically our then hs senior qrtback took a shining to our gym teacher. The tryst went on from h.s to his college days. They married when he was 25 and she was 35. She didn't groom him .

The rjkelly thing - he used underage to profit from. As to a few of the participants, seemed to be mutual in traveling and being entertained. . And that's what makes it questionable to conclude complete innocence/victimization by these ladies.
