So does this mean that everyone who has waterfront property in Charlotte County should have a sign that says "No Swimming Alligators"?

I'm guessing very few of us do, and if we do it's because it's a novelty not because of any concern.

When I lived in PGI I had many people, including neighbors, say that you would never see an alligator in the canal because they can't tolerate saltwater. And while they may not prefer salt water they can tolerate it. The last summer I lived there we had one hanging out in our canal for about two weeks.

Every once in a while they find one on the Beach in Boca.

The biggest reason you don't see them in PGI is because they can't get out of the water.

As far as getting out of the water that really depends. There where times my dock and others when the water level crested the dock. Also, around that time I saw the gator there was a number properties where the seawall had collapsed from erosion.

If it's private property,,ya think maybe a "NoTrespassing" sign would suffice?

We also used to see them fairly regularly in the basin when I lived at Fishville marina. Gators tolerate salt better than many people realize.
