Are these used in Florida? They really save you money in San Diego. I guess it depends on the air temp. at night. Most nights here the temp. gets really low allowing you to suck in the cool air then shut the windows and keep the house cool all day.

not sure if they do now,but when we were in the keys in the 70's they were.

We used one in the 70s in Houston, but had bad problems with humidity, mold.

I would think that you'd only get a few months of use per year out of it, mainly the winter months when the humidity is lower. Come summer, the AC does double duty - both cooling and dehumidifying. The fan would just be sucking humid air through the house in summer.

Not a good idea if you have a fireplace with the flu open. Did that once when I was a kid....makes a hell of a mess.
