I think the #1 reason is affordability. There isn't many other areas in florida where you can buy a waterfront home with gulf access for under 300k. I looked on the east coast, north of charlotte county, south of here and couldn't find it. That was my price range. So when all's said and done I'll have a 3bed/2 bath with over 100 ft. on the water in the Charlotte County/ Port Charlotte/ Punta Gorda area fully furnished with a new dock and boat lift. Throw in the awesome winter weather and it was a no brainer for me. And I'm guessing this applies to at least half of the forum posters.

That is great news! We just closed on a wonderful canal home in Port Charlotte a few weeks ago and we couldn't be happier. Now...if I could just retire here in NY, we could enjoy the beautiful area full time! Only 4 years and 299 days until I am eligible....not that I'm counting!!
