I tried looking it up on their website but did not get a definitive answer. I have to hire someone to get a couple of trees trimmed back but not sure if they need to be licensed or if a permit is required?

Probably no permit but I'd want to see their insurance coverage. If they don't show you send them packing.

Be very careful who you use to do this. There are dozens of guys driving around in a pickup with a ladder and a chainsaw ready to take your money. Florida is overran with these guys. Most of them are not insured, just looking to make a few dollars. Spend a little more and hire someone who can provide proof of current insurance, otherwise don’t let them on your property.

Don't give the government any ideas. Next thing you'll need a permit to cut your grass.

You have to speak to the county if you are cutting down any oaks but tree trimming you don't have to. They have to check to make sure they aren't live oaks. Then they give you permission to go ahead and cut them down. If it is other types of trees, I don't think you need to call. We had two oaks cut down by Treemendous Trees. They did a great job cutting them down and removing everything and were reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend them. No permit required if just cutting or trimming trees on your own property. If you are trimming near power lines I would call FPL. The permit is required for clearing or new construction.
