My 1983 Plymouth Horizon was not available with a deluxe radio from the factory, so I replaced the radio with an AM stereo, FM stereo aftermarket unit. I remember listening to WGAR Cleveland playing Jack & Diane by John Mellencamp in AM stereo.
The trouble with AM radio is that the world has become very noisy on the AM band due to all the electronic interference. In fact, FM is coming to CB radio:
The main thing I do not like about FM radio is all the commercials where they seem to air the commercials all around the same time in the similar/same market. I am too cheap to pay for satellite radio. I mostly avoid AM radio due to all the static.

Are you saying that FM will soon be nothing but angry conservative talk radio and religious stations?
Just heard that GM vehicles and Tesla are both discontinuing/dropping AM.
What next?
I use AM for traffic and news as AM travels longer distances (usually).
FM just maybe end up with religious stations and talk shows.
Religious stations and talk shows??? That's absurd. FM radio isn't going anywhere, and as a whole radio reaches over NINETY percent of the nation's population, the most of any medium
When will this happen? How much will these new Cobra and President radios cost?
No idea, but as someone from the UK, that's used FM for many years, I can tell you the audio quality is way better than AM, but the range, isn't. I think you'll get a lot of newbies on there, that value audio over range, or know nothing about radio. You'll know the type, squelch full up, 100watt burner, chatting to a neighbour 100 yards away, normally on the breaking/calling channel.
