I am so very sorry. Unfortunately we had to put our dog to sleep today because he had kidney disease, was in a lot of pain and could not walk anymore. I can empathize with you.

I am sorry as well. My dear basset Marley has kidney cancer and it looks as though he will have to be euthanized in the coming days. He won't eat and is very lethargic. He is not in any pain yet. It's an agonizing decision but the only "positive" thing I can hold on to is that Marley knew great love and was adored. He is only 7 years old, such a short life for my precious boy.

That sucks. I just lost my 12 year old Sheltie to kidney failure a couple days ago, and am taking it pretty hard. Kidney failure is a death sentence for pets. Oh, you can treat the symptoms and extend their life for a few months, but it'll be costly and time consuming and the quality of life for them will still be horrible AND you'll be turning them into a pincushion giving them meds and sub-Q fluids. the hard decision will still have to be made. I was paralized with grief and almost couldn't make that decision, and still feel guilt for having made it. But it was for the best and she's no oonger suffering... So sad that our little furry family members just don't last that long, even if all goes well.

To Dakota's Mother...Im so sorry for your lost I lost my boy Brutus almost 2 months ago to Diabetes. He got real sick on 8/27/13 and I watched him for 16 hours and he didnt get better so I took him in on 8/28/13 around 5 and then was transferred to a specialist and they didnt worry me about him not making it. They even rushed me out and said that i would be able to visit him during so and so hour. I said to my baby..."Mommy loves you boy, dont worry you're gonna get better, they are gonna take good care of you." I kissed him and hugged him and said good bye. He didnt make it. I was 10 minutes too late to say good bye and be by his side. He was gonna be 5 this November. SO i understand how you feel when you say she has left you so soon. My boy was everything to me and still is. Its hard to say goodbye and I had him cremated so he could be by my side forever...its not the same but that is all I have. I am sorry for your lost and I know how you feel. Im pregnant and I feel so sad all the time and cry everytime my mind is not thinking of school or anything distracting. I only hope when its my time that my boy will be there to greet me like he was when he was here. I hope you feel better but to tell you the truth if you loved dakota as much as i did Brutus than it will never be the same. He took my heart and happiness with him. I love and miss him so much. Nothing anyone can ever say to you will make it hurt less so im just gonna say that I understand how you feel and that im truly sorry.

I feel for everyone here that has posted. I lost my Chelsea five weeks ago tomorrow to kidney and liver failure from pancreatitis that was brought on by an episode of diabetic ketoacidosis caused by mis labled treats labled being for a diabetic dog. She was blind since diagnosed two years ago, but it did not slow her down, she was in good health at almost 13 and we had her diabeties in check. I miss her every day and have cried every day.
