This will be our first fireworks/July 4th Bulls game. I am assuming parking will be a mess.

Right now our plan is to hit the area and park around 5:30-6:00 (game is at 7) and then walk over to Mellow Mushroom, have dinner, then hit the game (we already have tickets). We're staying for fireworks after.

Does this plan sound workable? Is there a better one? We don't live in Durham, just hang out there occasionally, so I'm not sure of the logistics.

Parking shouldn't be too bad. There's ample room in the decks and streets surrounding the stadium. You may have to pay a small fee and walk a bit, but not too much or too far. The attempt at dinner might be a bit more difficult and taxing because it is sure to be busy (usually is for a regular weekend game). If you are with a small group and without small children it might not be too bad. It will be fun regardless. Good Luck and enjoy the game!

I've only been to a few games, but I'd probably get to dinner a little earlier. I'm sure anywhere around there will be REALLY busy. I guess if worse comes to worse, you can eat ball park concessions (actually, in my book, that's really enjoyable lol). Have fun!

Yeah, I would get to Mellow Mushroom earlier. We ate there before a Thursday night game for the free Facebook night, which wasn't that busy of a game, but Mellow Mushroom was and we waited quite a while. I've only seen a regular Friday night fireworks show which was pretty good, I could only imagine how great they will be this weekend. Have fun!

Thanks so much everyone!!! We'll be taking off soon! I can't wait--I used to watch the Richmond Braves growing up and love minor league ball!

Thanks again for the input. We left a little earlier and even though we arrived at Mellow Mushroom at 5:30, we waited a half hour for seats. We parked in the deck adjacent to the ball field and got a 1st-row spot. We got to the game a bit early so we looked around, bought some Bulls hats, and got our seats--which were wonderful, especially for fireworks viewing!! My littlest got a t-shirt thrown from the Moe's van.

The Bulls didn't win, but my whole family had an amazing time and I am reminded why I loved going to Minor league ball way back when.

And it was good advice to go early--our family who met us there ended up on the top floor of the parking deck and even after we'd made the 20-min trip home they were still sitting on the 4th floor of the deck waiting to get out!!!!

Bulls games are always a good time, even Friday night when we went and they were beaten pretty badly. The fireworks on are always very good too.

For parking, I would avoid the deck unless you really need to minimize the walking you do. Just park along the road up the hill near the Kia dealer. Sets you up for a tidy exit and its free.

Frank, you are right. Luckily we got in on the 1st floor of the deck, so we were ok. But my relatives who also came (later) were on the 5th floor and by the time we got home they were sitting on the 4th floor of the deck, still waiting....we'll definitely be street parking next time!
