yup, this is the best way to get the real scoop on what it's like to live there. Make sure you go once in the morning and once in the evening at least...different people you'll see.

Sorry this is late, but I lived there for a couple of years and moved out in spring of 2010. The place was getting pretty sketchy around mid '09 or so with a lot of empty apartments and some shady characters, but with the economic nosedive they started getting a lot of decent folks who were looking for cheaper housing. There were lots of young families with kids and such, but plenty of older and some younger folks too. The thing is, I'm not sure if those people stayed or left, so the situation may have changed by now, so I would definitely try to talk to current residents if you can. If you go there to visit, try to talk to people in different areas of the complex, since they can have totally different vibes, especially from one side of the lake to the other.

I can say that I really enjoyed the peaceful, park-like atmosphere of the lake and all the wildlife during my years there. Just be smart about locking your car and not leaving valuables in it, which was the problem in the vast majority of incidents I heard about. Best of luck!
