Best fried chicken in downtown Raleigh/Garner (New Bern, Smithfield: home, live)

Any recommendations? I'm not into pork, but would love to sink my teeth into a great piece of fried chicken now that I live here. Where should I go???

The best home made fried chicken can be found at the cafeteria at Cameron Village!

They bake their own cakes too!

The best fried chicken in Raleigh is gone....."R.B.'s Chicken and Rib's" on South Saunder's St. I never knew anybody to get the ribs It was owned by Mr. R.B. Stokes. It was broasted chicken actually, and it would melt in your mouth....I'm not kidding

Churches Chicken on New Bern Ave is good...maybe Big Ed's...The Pit? Toot'n'Tell'It in Garner.

I heard so-so things about the cafeteria, although my inquiry was not about fried chicken. Any other recommendations besides the cafeteria?

I hate to recommend a chain (I typically don't), but I think that Smithfields BBQ has really good Fried Chicken.

Also, if you drive a bit further on 401, try Joyce's family restaurant in Fuquay Varina, google it for directions, but it's right in town. For full disclosure, I've been there twice. Once for lunch, great service, great food, great experience, so I took my wife back for dinner, and service was rude and horrible, and there was little food to eat. It's a buffet, but when they are on their game, it's good, and they are known for the fried chicken, which is the only thing that is always on the buffet (so I hear)

I think one of the best things they have at the Pit is the fried chicken.

Also, Coopers BBQ has great fried chicken.

Ole Time Barbecue has the best fried chicken that I've had--the Pit's fried chicken is way too battered and salty IMO.

We tried the chicken at the pit and though the chicken was crispy it was way way to salty.

Sounds like the Pit is out...2 votes for two salty. Where is Olde Type Barbeque mentioned in the OP?
