We're thinking about putting a bid in on a house located on Edgemont Road in Wendell. The house has well water and we're wondering if anybody has info, or direction on where to FIND info, about the water levels throughout the year.
I come from a town in OH where people drive around w/ enormous water tanks in the backs of their trucks because of dry wells...Not interested in that chore!
We have been on well water for years. We have 300ft. well, and even during the drought a few years ago, our water level never dropped. I can't speak for the Wendell area, but our neighbors here in Wake Foret with deep wells, have never had a problem..............
Besides the water level you also want to check for chemicals. Not sure if Wake County checks all wells monthly but ours has been checked for chemicals monthly due to a leak in a gas tank at a nearby gas station.
I can also speak of the deep well we have for our Wake Forest home which has not failed to raise water up from the debts of the well bottom to our home! Even in the drought of 2006 when Falls Lake looked like the dry grasslands of the Serengeti we had water. Only issue we ever had was a bad expansion tank that had to be replaced due to lack of water pressure.
I have not seen any water trucks traversing the streets of Wake Forest in the summer months so I would say it has not been an issue.
Here is an article Water company could be drying up private wells :: WRAL.com regarding an isolated well water issue in N Raleigh. I personally had no idea this type of thing could become an issue. Perhaps there is more to the story. Anyway if I were in the market for a home that utilized well water I would speak with my real estate person and see if there were any commercial water companies in my area.
