Hello Everyone,

We are relocating to the Raleigh area and are pretty certain on Wake Forest. We will most likely be moving to the Jones Dairy Elementary school zone. I found out today that it is a year-round school. So I have a few questions ...

How does this work?

When are there breaks?

What are your views of pros and cons of this schedule?

Are all elementary schools in Wake Forest year round?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Have you been to the WCPSS site? It's wcpss.net. It will tell you what schools are YR and which are traditional, along with all the breaks for each track.

There are 4 tracks...so 3 tracks are in school at any given time. The kids go to school for 9 weeks then are off for 3. During track out time there are places that have like camps and stuff for your kids if you work etc......from the moms I have spoken to, they like the year round because they kids aren't off all summer long with no academics.....and it's nice to travel or vacation at off peak time. My friends kids go to Jones Dairy and she LOVES the school....we love Northampton there very very much and it is on the top of our list for a home...... Not all schools are year round, some are traditional.
If I am incorrect in any of my information I am sure that it will be clarified by someone on here :-)

Also, Let me ask ...
Do you get assigned a track or do you choose one?

When does the school year begin?

When is registration? As my son is in Pre-K now so he will be starting Kindergaren in the upcoming school year.

Yes. they do. We love it. All it's all my children know. I like the 3 week track outs. I would have a hard time going back to traditional. Our neighborhood also has a year round middle school. So, I do not need to worry about my kids being on different schedules until my oldest is in high school.

I thought if you were assigned to a year round school but didn't want year round, you could ask for a traditional calendar school and Wake County would assign you to another school, although you could not choose WHICH traditional calendar school. Is that correct?

The options are here:

Determine School by Student Address

When I was househunting I would put in an address of a house I liked to see all the options for schools.
