Seriously, a walkable double downtown, good housing stock, open space, going to be a bus line headed from downtown to Raleigh later this year. A rail line that COULD be used in emergencies. Plenty of farmland. A real nice southern town. Good schools and near everything, Cary crossroads 15 min, Holly Springs next Door. RTP about 30 min, 540 will be only 6 miles from downtown when it opens the western tpke. Take a look at this town.

I haven't lived in this area long, but it looks like Fuquay and Varina went through their tough times and are on the rebound. Still some areas that need serious work, but it seems to be getting better.

I think when 540 makes it through, it will remove the main obstacle for FV to reach its potential.

both Holly Springs and Fuquay will be winners from the 540 extension when it opens. The commute time to RTP will substantially reduce and as a result property prices will get a boost

"Fuquay-Varina" is one town, not "Fuquay and Varina". They merged decades ago. FYI. Many just refer to it as "Fuquay" but it is actually "Fuquay-Varina".

Unlike "Raleigh-Durham" which are two separate cities (or one airport) often "merged" by people who aren't from here

Yep, I love the downtowns, but the stores have been struggling. Quite a few of the boutique type places have closed. I think supporting two downtowns is difficult, especially as they are not quite a comfortable walking distance apart.

I have noticed things picking up in the past month or so with new tenants coming in - places like CupCakeBite | Facebook. And Aviator SmokeHouse opened just last night, directly across the road from the Tap House, serving BBQ, burgers, etc. Aviator is now supporting 3 locations in Fuquay, with the Brewery open to the public Thu - Sat.

It's amazing how distance perceptions change depending on where one is. Being 6 miles from a future highway doesn't sound close to me at all. But, for people who are used to driving long distances on county/state roads, perhaps it seems like nothing? I suppose the new highway will connect F-V to the rest of the Triangle in the same way that 540 connected Wake Forest. So that I can have a perspective on this, does anyone know the distance from I-540@US1 to central Wake Forest?

As a side note: I am six blocks from Cameron Village yet people in my DT neighborhood complain about not having a grocery store downtown! I guess six blocks is too far to go for both Fresh Market and Harris Teeter.

Some of these giant new highway interchanges are longer than the distance from my condo to the nearest grocery store.

"Fuquay is a diamond in the rough," has been touted for the dozen plus years I have called the triangle home (and this does include a half dozen in the quay)!

6 miles is nothing.

not sure about the mileage but us1/540 to DT wake forest is probably 15 minutes (assuming no rush hour traffic)
