We would like to go on a little vacation this spring/early summer, where would be a good place to take a 1.5yr old? We've been here a few years but are still learning about what the area has to offer (originally from west coast). We were thinking Williamsburg, but would that be too much for a little one? Where's a good place to stay? We'd like a pool (bonus if they have extra water features like splash grounds). Maybe even a fun resort, right now our son loves walking around to explore anything and loves water, we've been to the beach so looking to try something new. TIA

i've thought about water parks but they seem a little expensive for the amount of time we'd spend. he's love it for a few hours max, but he's still taking naps and has a short attention span. Also, I'm pregnant and due this summer (not really into hanging out in a bathing suit all day )

Within 3 hours? Here are a few suggestions:

1) Atlantic Beach/Morehead City area (3 - 3.5 hrs): Easy drive - lots to do with the 1.5 year old. There's a nice aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. There's Fort Macon near Atlantic Beach. Lots of nice restaurants. Relaxing area! Our family's favorite beach week spot.

2) Carolina Beach/Fort Fisher (3 hrs): Very nice boardwalk (and I believe Britt's donuts is open now), nice aquarium @ Fort Fisher. Near Wilmington - there's a cool little river walk near the Battleship. Restaurants. You can talk the ferry from Fort Fisher that takes you out to Southport - which is a very charming little town (there's a nice trolley tour you can take - and a quaint little Christmas shop w/ toys, decorations, ice cream, etc). The ferry ride (it's a car/passenger ferry) is about an hour each way - great in and of itself.

3) A little longer drive (abt 4.5 hours) - but Myrtle Beach has probably something for everyone. Tons of beach related activities, tons of amusement type venues, restaurants, shopping - just a ton of stuff to do. If you haven't been there yet - I'd recommend it. Lots of resort hotels on the beach - many have both indoor and outdoor pools, splash park areas, lazy rivers (you can lounge on a rubber inner tube and float down a long, narrow water pool).

Congratulations on the new little one!!! Hope y'all have a great time!

I used to drive down there every week and it was more like 3 hours, depending on where you are leaving from and where you were going down there. NMB in under 3. Surfside in about 3.5.

i was going ot mention it's more like 3 hours from raleigh, too. perhaps beans&cornbread is further west. the OP didn't say where she's located but it would be good to specify which may help with the distance thing a bit more.

You could also consider the Boone/Blowing Rock area. Blowing Rock has a cute downtown (for you) and a great town park with a pool (for the little one.) Tweetsie Railroad if he's in to trains (though may not be worth the money that young). You could walk around Price Park with a bit of non-swimming splashing on the shores of Price Lake (off the Blue Ridge Parkway, not far from Boone/BR) or even one of the non-swimming lakes closer to BR (Bass Lake, creek running through the parks in BR). Boone has a county swimming pool with a cute toddler-friendly park right next to it. Lots of options out there.

Our kids went everywhere with us so if we went to the beach, they went with us. I know you said you had already been to the beach so if my kids were still 1.5 years old, I'd check out that Wolf Lodge in the Charlotte area and then go to the large outlet! It IS very educational to take a baby shopping if you teach them as you shop!!!
