I would like some info on the area. I am in the flooring trade. My wife is a r.n.We have kids 12 to 21 from Cape Cod Mass. The Raliegh area seems nice but we would like a town outside the area that has a little slower pace. A good school for the 12 yr old the last in school. My wife is worried about us being from the north. I have heared many good things about the area. I would like a place where my older kids have a chance to get on their own. Not much of that here .

bpack5 I sent you a private message so look at that. I also had a question seeing that your from the Cape. I am planning to take my parents there this summmer for their 50th wedding anniversary. Any suggestions would help. I have been there before but just in a hotel. I am looking to rent a house with at least 4-5 bedrooms preferably on the ocean side.

Everyone seems to be branching out to the Wake Forest area. There is about 20,000 people there. It is a great community and has a wonderful downtown with over 100 businesses. Several outstanding restaurants and specialty shops. It is keeping the looks of its past as a historical district, and is keeping it's small town charecter. It has a real warmth and charm to it. If there is anything in particular that your looking for just let me know. It is a really nice area to live and close to Raleigh.

Lots of good towns within a short drive of Raleigh. Alot of highway improvements have been completed East of there. Wake is fine. Don't worry about being a dam yankee (a dam yankee is one that comes down and stays). It's a fact of life in NC now that lots of folks from the North (and Mexico!) want to enjoy what the area offers. Sure we ***** and moan a little but that's it. As long as you don't try to change NC to make it more like where you left from you will be fine. Raleigh is not very fast paced. For NC it may be but it is truly the Mayberry of state capitals. Essentially a hick backwater and we like it like that. Come on down whenever you get ready.

Default NYer

We New Yorkers know all about waves of outsiders coming in & changing the character of the city & surrounding areas. That is what makes it a vibrant area, but with uncontrolled development & unlimited freebies, it is not so hot for middle class people who can't afford all the cutting edge entertainment & activities & just want to lead a semi-normal life.
I for one have lived in other areas (& countries) and would not try to change where we relocate, but it is a fact, that if an enterprising person sees a demographic shift, & decides to open a business to appeal to the new people, then that person will be successful, & the face of the area changes, for better and/ or for worse.

hi-new member here-also a NY'er-from Lawngyland contemplating a move also like many others-mostly same reasons-taxes-housing prices-I was going to do an addition/refab on my house but the price is almost as much as a new house in NC-taxes are a third of what I'd be paying-maybe even a qtr., it's just gotten so out of hand-but obviously looking out for the kids best interests-my girls are 11 and 8-I'm looking in the Cary,Aex, Holley Springs, Chappel Hill areas-taking a ride down in a few weeks-look at some houses-was looking for feedback from anyone who has completed this or also thinking I guess-from what I've read it seems like it's a no brainer-got plenty of reading to do-thanks-Joe

Default Hi Lawnguylander

Me too! My husband is in a 1 bedroom apartment in Cary. We will move to a 3 bedroom in Wake Forest thsi summer after we sell the house on LI. We found the choices in housing to be overwhelming & thought it would be aheadache to coordinate closings so when I get there I will look more for our eventual home, from an apartment that has more square footage than our house does!
We were afraid to buy, & then find we made a mistake & be stuck, unable to get our $ back... why would a person buy used when they can buy new? I know some people do but it seemed to make more sense for us to put more time into such a big decision.

Default hey NYer

I can see your point of renting before buying-we're just in the beginning stages of thinking/talking about it-we're going to make a few drives down I think and spend a few weekends at different times to see if we're ready for such a big decision-unfortuneately we've already found a house online that we absolutely love but it would be bad decision on our part to jump w/o checking to see if thee's water in the pool-never mind how deep it is any tips or rants or raves from other readers-jump-I mean chime in-
