hmm, i think i just answered the first one... a Plestiodon skink, somewhat similar to a blue-tailed skink from Australia.
i'm still curious what that pudgy little toad/frog is

Keep them both around and you'll have less and less bugs. We have both and they're like pets.

But if you have dogs or cats, don't let them eat the skink. I've heard they cause permenate nervous system damaged to pets if the pet tries to eat the skink.

Tell that to my Jack Russell Terriers...... They have eaten many of those, no damage so far.

Somehow I think the permanent damage will happen when the pet actually EATS the skink, not when it's trying to eat it.
