I agree, if you see the snake in time. That won't work if you let the dog out in the backyard.

"ok, leave it....no! leave it! no! DON'T BRING ME THE WIGGLE STICK!!! AAAHHHH!!!!"

Look up leerburg.com and see if they have any snake avoidance training material.

How common are copperheads and other venomous snakes in northern NC anyway? Do most people not let their dogs run loose in their yards because of venomous snakes?

I would like to find this training for my 6 year old orange tabby cat. He goes after any snakes he can find and carries them around. I actually bought him a rubber snake as a play toy.

I would say most people don't give snakes a second thought if they have dogs. I would bet most snakes would prefer not to make a home where dogs run around on a regular basis.

I always let my dog run loose in my yard and never had any problems. I've seen a few copperheads and lots of other non-venomous snakes in Raleigh over the years. My friends dog was bitten by a copperhead a few years ago and the vet. bill cost him a fortune.

One of my nephew's dogs has been nailed on three different occasions this summer by a copperhead...at the tune of $750 a pop

Three times in one summer.

I think your nephew's dog might have a learning disability.

You would think only once would do the trick wouldn't you?
