I will be working as a nurse at UNC Main Hospital, and was wondering how parking is going to be?

I live on 15-501 now, but the buses don't run before 7:00am when the shift begins.

Also, can anyone suggest good apartment complexes close to UNC hospital?

There are two huge parking decks across from the hospital complex. One is for employees only iirc. I have done many construction projects over there and in talking to the people who work there, parking was mention as a pain.

I turned down a job (NP) at UNC when I first moved here 3 years ago. They were going to have me park about 4 miles away and then take the free bus service. People told me this would add about 30 minutes to my commute because the waiting time for busses etc.

Hospital employees that park on campus normally park in Craig Deck which is about half a block from the hospital or they park in S-11 which is right next to the Dean Dome. There's a bus that normally travels from S-11 to the hospital. The cost for parking is based upon your salary and spaces are at a premium.

And as mentioned, you can also park at one of the park and ride lots and catch the bus to campus.

Most new employees are assigned to a CAP program which means parking in a lot and then riding a bus to the hospital. On nights/weekends you park in the deck across from the hospital. The closest lots to you are on 54 behind the Friday Center, Friday Center, & Eubanks Road. Until recently I lived off 15-501 as well & if I left my apartment at 6:15, drive to the 54 lot, & catch the bus at just around 6:30 I can get to my unit on the 4th floor by about 6:50. Not too bad. The evening is worse because you just want to get home obviously. Usually adds about 30 minutes on that end due to traffic & buses with stops on the route. The AM has a couple of express routes, or directly to the hospital routes without picking up other commuters.

You can enter your name into the parking lottery or whatever they call it for a spot closer to the hospital or even in the deck, but you have to pay for those & I believe the CAP program is still free for everyone.
