It's tougher for renters this year compared to past years. Perhaps the myth of the "American dream" single family home in the burbs has dulled because of lower home appreciation and higher commuting costs.
Occupancy rates are much higher, so specials in decent communities have virtually evaporated.
I agree about gates, useless. My community has high intensity sodium halide street lighting equal to Manhattan, and I use our 24 hour gym in the wee hours with no fears.
Triangle Town Center area is convenient to many services and my community, Northridge Crossings, is nearly full. The website lists availabilities.
Key is your job location, and finding a job before you come here.
Some stupid magazines have described the Triangle area as having something like "streets paved with gold" but this is a giant exaggeration.
