Tir Na Nog is my favorite one in downtown Raleigh. The owner of Hibernian is kind of a jerk so I actively avoid that place. I've heard good things about Napper Tandy.

Tir Na Nog is my favorite too but if the weather is good and warm Napper Tandys has a nice deck.

I only go to Hibernian to drink.

Hibernian's food is nasty.

I haven't been to the ones mentioned, but my wife and I live in Brier Creek and always enjoy Trali. There's always interesting dinner specials, and a good-sized outdoor area if the weather is nice.

Tir Na Nog is the place to go, especially since it has a good vibe at night and it is within waking distance of the Center.

I agree about Tir Na Nog being at the top of the list and Hibernian being at the bottom for the most part.

Napper Tandy's would be somewhere in the middle. The food there is ok, the service is generally good (though there have been times where it was stellar, and some where it was awful) and the patio is awesome. However, on Friday and Saturday nights NT's does seem to lean a little more towards the college crowd (though Hibernian is worse for this, being right on Glenwood).

+1 on Trali's food, drink deals and service.
Welcome to Trali

The decor is pretty generic, but they often have some pretty good beer specials.

Also, if you do want to eat, they have a good selection of Irish specialties that rotate so it doesn't get boring, and I've never been disappointed in their food.

And what I like the most, is that you can eat at the bar, nearby tables, or outside, like any other bar, but if you take a date you can eat in a separate dining area that they call the Library that that is quiet enough for easy chatting.
