Whether you're a fan of the N & O or not, the decline of the American newspaper as we know it is simply sad. We get our news instantly these days and that's technology, but at some point when cities lose the daily newspaper, an old friend will have gone by the wayside.

Giant mechanical printing presses; mass quantities of paper and ink; delivery systems that consume oil and generate pollution; tons of trash/recycling generated ...

Goodbye "old friend."

It's a good thing that ....
- no resources are used to manufacture, transport and deliver laptops, iPads, iPhones, etc.
- no electricity is needed to operate server farms, Internet backbone, wireless networks, etc.
- our landfills don't have any 3-year old computers, early generation iPods, etc.

Great point, and if everyone did it, all newspaper would be recycled. A lot more than you can say for all the gadgets being dumped in the landfill with all the toxic things in them. I use all the gadgets too, but still get the N&O. Gotta have it when you're eating that bowl of cereal.

Oh, and bring back Scary Gary, hilarious. You can email N&O about the changes, they are going to bring back 2 strips.

Unbelievable.
