Do you do any canvassing with people who are homeless? There are many vets in this situation and I would imagine quite a few with PTSD.

You might consider putting flyers up at community colleges and career schools...I work at a private career college and we have many vets taking advantage of their GI Bill. They actually seem to be a well-adjusted group, but I know that is not a good indicator. Even if they are doing okay, they might be able to refer friends.

Also, doesn't the United Way have a service referral website or hotline?

I would think every doctor's office would want this info also...even if the vets are going to the VA, their family members might be the ones to seek help and info for them.

Second Right--I hope he is able to eventually get the help that he needs, sounds like he is suffering a bit--it truly is amazing how the mind will heal if you let it. PTSD should not be a life sentence!

Unfortunately, what we've found that people who are homeless have much more pressing needs-like staying alive rightfully so-than seeking treatment for PTSD, so really tough population to reach and keep in treatment.

We are in the schools and in many doctor's offices--as well as in the job finder, craigslist, one of Fayetteville newspapers and some churches--still really tough to reach these guys. Again appreciate the group brainstorm...keep the ideas coming!

United Way--haven't looked at them yet! But will, thank you!

Veterans helping Veterans of America was collecting money at the grocery store by my house recently. I picked up a flyer. If you'd like a number for them, DM me and I'll pass it along although you may be able to find it online yourself.

You can also go the the local NAMI meetings and hand out info there. That's the first support group my mom joined when my dad was diagnosed.

Really nice suggestion, just spoke to Mr. Stephens who heads up Veterans of America and he was excited to work together--thank you!

And, we're talking with NAMI as well, but I'll follow up to make sure we're still on their minds!

Cheers!
