Let's keep this in perspective....not every neighborhood get rezoned every year.

I think they meant to say that reassignments are a yearly thing here, not that every neighborhood is reassigned yearly.

Thanks lamishra. It's amazing how words just come out wrong sometimes ... How does that reassignment thing work anyway? Do kids change schools when their neighborhood/node is reassigned?

Unfortunately yes but eventually you get settled and adjusted in the new school and move on.

Until the next year, where you'd change schools again? That hardly seems fair for kids.

It happens ever year for the county but they hardly ever redistrict a certain node for a certain school every year. For example they wouldn't redistrict node A at the elementary level each year.

I don't know if the rule is still in effect but Wake had a policy that wouldn't redistrict a certain node at a certain level more than once in four years.

Maybe someone else knows that can chime in if this still is the case or not.

Thank you all for your posts...especially the links to the sites where I can check all of this out myself.

One thing we are looking for in our move is stability for our kids and a known track that has lower odds for changing. I agree - it is really unfair for kids to rezone them more than once. Especially for high school. Seems like it happens more often for ele. school, right?

Can I safely assume that the odds of my kids getting moved are LOWER in Chapel Hill? And...the schools look really solid there too, unless I'm missing someting.

Anyone know which HS is more desirable in Chapel Hill, and why? (comparing East Chapel Hill to Chapel Hill) Or, is there a newer one that kids/ parents seem to like more?

THANKS!!
