but yea...as awesome as your area is (beautiful, educated, clean) i'm sooo afraid of bugs that i wouldn't have much of a life. i know its silly to you all, but its a legit issue for me.

maybe i will get therapy and if i someday overcome my phobia, i shall definitely reconsider this area.

thankss.

and if anyone is sick of those bugs, move to San Francisco (not just for that reason haha)

I have a friend that is afraid of cats. When she is showing homes that have cats, she sends her clients in and she waits outside. It is an irrational fear but she has it so I can understand your fear of bugs.

I've been to San Fran. I'm less afraid of the bugs here!

Vicki

I know what you mean. I live my life in fear of bugs. I moved here from Florida for just that reason. But I still find them from time to time. They're usually small and not that fear-inducing, and most of the time, the cats take care of them. But every now and then, one slips through the cracks and crawls on me. And I'm not afraid to say that I scream like a little girl. And when I find one planted by the CIA, it's even worse.

are there a lot of bugs in NC??

Of course, I suspect they've bugged almost all the phones in the state. Just goes to show that no government can be trusted.

I think she's moved on to asking about the bugs in Boston in the Massachusetts board.

Therapy is too expensive if she has no compelling reason to move here.

Why not NYC. The rats and mice eat the bugs for you.

Consider moving to Seattle. As green as NC with no bugs. Pricewise it will cost you half of what you pay in SF.

Poor OP. Don't let the jokesters scare you from moving here.

I'm not sure where all these people live, but in nearly 20 years (your entire life!), I haven't found bugs to be a problem. And I HAAAATE bugs.

I've seen one black widow spider -- in the front yard; maybe two giant cockroaches (one dead, one alive) and a handful of black cockroaches -- and the cockroaches scooted in, I believe, when I let the dogs in and out of the house. We had tiny moths one year in the kitchen, I think they're called "pantry moths," and I read they never go away; they went away. We had tiny ants twice during springtime, and they went away.

There are too many mosquitoes, though. I just use "Off." The mosquitoes don't bother my husband at all. Nothing bites him, or if they do, he does not react to them. I've never seen a wolf spider here; I've seen them in Florida.

We don't have an exterminator, either. We rarely use bug spray in the house (if I see a tiny house spider here and there -- and they make me shudder, too, I'll use spray) and never in the yard.

My sister used to live in Louisiana. Now THEY have bugs.

But here -- it's fine.

I was totally serious. I have a pond out back. I live near Umstead and Lake Crabtree. Bugs galore. Critter central.

We moved here from Los Angeles a few years ago and YES there are definitely more bugs. Quarterly pest control helps. My husband sees them late at night, but I rarely see them. Outside they are a plenty. The first year it freaked me out, but now I'm used to it. What I do miss about CA are the vistas, the cool weather, the cultural activities, and open minded people. Sometimes a cheap house isn't a good trade off. It's nice here, but it's no CA.
