Just priced a ticket from Raleigh to Phoenix for a 4day weekend in Sept.....Fare is ridiculous as opposed to Atlanta, GA to Phoenix, the roundtrip ticket came to almost $240.00. Now $240 compared to almost $450 leaving from Raleigh......Cmon now you do the math....Why is it that Raleigh cannot have fares like ATlanta. Even leaving from Charlotte on a different airline is about $450 and up.....These high prices are killing me......

All airfares are awful.

Try Cincinnati but have Preparation H handy to soothe the pain.

In general, airfares are awful (it *is* summer, after all). However, if you monitor the site closely, you may find opportunities where that fare drops to $100 one-way. I had this experience twice in July. Waited to book until 2-3 days before travel date and they dropped like a rock on non-peak travel hours from the $240-$260 range (RDU to TPA and back again) down to just $100 apiece.

Was the Atlanta flight direct? That can make all the difference in the world with Southwest fares I've found.

Good if your dates are flexible.

And there's your answer I'm guessing if you priced direct flights from Raleigh to Vegas or somewhere else out west they fly direct you'd find similar pricing.

But that's just it..I put the same days in for Raleigh that I used for Atlanta. From Raleigh to PHoenix, a direct flight is about $400 bucks.

Ahh I see, I forgot they had direct RDU to PHX flights. It may be that the days you chose for those RDU flights are fuller than the ATL flights, so they up the price accordingly. Also I have heard in the past that RDU charges more to the airlines to use their airport, which would be reflected in the price as well.

Atlanta is an active hub market with direct competition between AirTran (now owned by Southwest) and Delta. Southwest plans to de-hub ATL, and continue to operate their point-to-point model. Once that happens, I expect the Southwest-operated flights out of ATL to increase in price.

You can get a $118 RT to ATL on DL or airtran, so just book it as two PNRs....
