Dh is planning to put in a brick sidewalk next week. We need to shop for pavers. We're looking for sources outside of the big box stores. Someone recommended General Shale. Are there any other good local sources in the area?

Adams Supply has a couple of outlets, including one on LaSalle St in Durham. Very friendly folks and we used them for our backyard project.

In terms of DIY, we paid someone a small sum to do the excavation, put in some crush & run, tamp it, and then put down a level base of screenings. We put down the bricks and did the polymeric sand. It saved us about 40% overall on the project, and it only took us a day to lay about 800 square feet of pavers. Just a thought if you want to get out of doing the hard part.

A company I am using to add some accents recommended this place:

Brandco Incorporated

They are only open M-F (until 4:30pm), though, so I haven't had an opportunity to go.

John Deere Landscaping in Apex https://www.johndeerelandscapes.com/ is where we got our pavers and the stone to border our garden beds. Not sure how their prices compare, but seemed reasonable and we liked their selection.

Check Habitat's ReStore as well; they often have pallets of bricks that work well for pavers, although you usually have to get there during the week to find them. You'll save a mint if you can. On weekends, they go quickly.
